Differences Between Screened Porches, Screened-in Patios, 3-Season Rooms, and All-Season Sunrooms

Screeneed porches are simply how they sound – a porch-like structure enclosed by screens. If the foundation is concrete, tile, or another type of flooring, the space might be referred to as a screened-in patio.

Screened-in areas built off a home’s exterior door are used for about three quarters of the year, largely depending on the severity of weather. They do not offer refuge from extreme temperature, winds, rains, and humidity. They do protect against bugs, pests, direct sun, most rain, snow, yard debris, and can deter pollen.

A 3-season sunroom is essentially a screened-in porch area with the addition of glass or vinyl windows. Three-season sunrooms are typically usable most of the year since they can moderately maintain a comfortable temperature because of the windows. Plus they keep the area dry during rainstorms that would blow into a screened-only area.

Some designs, such as EZE Breeze, have the windows on a track system, so you can adjust the amount of open air exposure. This offers a customizable climate inside the enclosed area.

4-season sunrooms, also known as all-season rooms, have the most protection from the elements by means of additional insulation, double or triple paned windows, and often HVAC climate control. They are sealed up, making them usable all year round.
